Spa+Retreat reflects a need for deep rest and recuperation that is often lacking in our overstimulated lives.
Many lead overly busy lives where even time off is scheduled and dictated by what is trendy. But quick fixes don't have lasting effects.
We know that it's good to connect with nature and to simplify our material lives. But exactly what does that take in practice?
If only someone or something could take our pains and problems away; if only pampering or prescriptions were the answer.
Through my writing on Vision Spa Retreat, I want to call attention to some of the issues facing us regards personal and planetary health.
These are communal, not commercial, conundrums. I believe we need to put planet and people first, and to forego the profits.
I see 'spa sabbaticals for the soul' as a potential antidote for our cultural confusion.
It's not meant to be a trendy marketing term.
I'm going to dive below the surface of what I see happening in the world of spa, and challenge some of the current spa trends.
And I'm going to give a special focus to Water, since this element and all that it stands for is so seriously under threat.
What is a spa sabbatical for the soul?
Here's a brief outline of what I suggest it takes ...
- Leave your habitual surroundings and usual activities for long enough to loosen your dependence on them.
- Go to a place offering peace and natural beauty that includes water.
- Preferably go alone or with just one or a few others.
- Have your stay facilitated by people who do not espouse a particular doctrine.
- Go because you know you need rest and recuperation.
- Or because you are seeking creative solutions for challenging problems or projects.
- Be prepared to follow inner guidance and respond to your own intuition or calling.
- Suspend time and responsibility to anything but yourself for a while.
- Enjoy experiences that enhance your sense of wellbeing.
- Do simple activities to expand your inner and outer awareness.
- Plan to act upon your insights in ways that benefit or motivate you, people and planet.
